This week in class we were taught by Floyd McClung the founder of All Nations. We studied and picked apart Acts chapter 13 & 14. They are starting to give us assignments to finish on our own for the next week and then we all discuss our finding and how the Lord spoke to us in that assignment. We also broke down the "Jesus Story" into parts, simplified it and need to be able to retell it smothly in story format. This is what we broke it down into:
creation
rebellion
sacrifice
returncommission
We then searched and found verses to back up each part of the story and told it in 2-3 minutes. It was hard at first to make the time and not sound choppy but after practice it becomes smoother. It's a good tool to start a conversation off with or a good tool to use in a Bible study.
Another Masi story for he week...............I was walking around Masi with my group, 2 woman, and one guy from CPx and one other guy who lives in Masi and is alos in CPx this year. We were walking back to where we normally get picked up and dropped off and as we were walking and talking we look up and from this house, to the sidewalk, and spilling out into the street were all of these people dressed up in ritual attire. They were all pretty loud and they were blocking the street. They were perfoming rituals and sacrificing and worshiping their ancestors. Before we could figure out what was going on we were walking through the middle of them. Lucas who is the guy that lives in Masi kept us walking through and then a woman came right up to us and started asking why we didn't come back to her house. After Lucas spoke to her he came and told us that she is a sagoma or witch doctor. Apparently other people form CPx had gone to her hosue earlier and spoke to her and prayed with her. She was inviting us to come back and pray with her again. It definently got a little hairy and that was really the first time I got nervous being in Masi. But everything turned out good and I am still in one piece...Ha!
Here are a couple more terms for ya:
Sangoma - witch doctor
SMS - textingPetrol - gasoline
It's getting harder and harder for me to come up with new terms I think I am just getting used to hearing them so it doesn't seem out of the ordinary and they are really hard for me to remember. I'll keep trying but this section of my blog may be quickly passing away.....so sad when that happens
Here are a couple more things that happened this week:
Earlier in the week I volunteered to cook dinner for the house, we take turns on mon and sat (our days off). I made spaghetti, sause, salad, and we had a bag of cookies for desert. I got many compliments, it was nerve racking but fun too. A little fact we learned this week was that all snakes in Cape Town are protected and if you are seen killing one there is a R10,000 fine. That's about $1500.00 !!!! But I will restate.......if you are seen........and leaveit at that :)
During the week all the ladies got invited to Floyd and Sally's house for a Bible study. It was amazing. There was food, the view was incredible, we got little gifts......and the best part of it all we had ice for our drinks.....that was the first time I had had ice since I left home. I didn't realize how much I loved ice, I usually don't even use it at home, but man it was nice to have it and probably the first time I got excited about ice in my life.
We started a new trend between Africa House and Silver Palms(where the couples stay). Every thurs night we have praise and worship from 7 till whenever, I love it!!!
Yesterday I went with a couple to help them with there kids while they were trying to start a friendship with a Samali couple who are Muslem. I love this couple and there two girls, so it was fun to be had by all. We went to go get henna. Not sure how to discribe henna better that something that looks freakin awesome/tatoo like but comes off in 2 to 3 weeks. You should probably google it to get a better idea of what it is. Anyway, Igot it done!!! I am now the proud owner of 2 -3/4 sleeve henna arms:) I will try to post pictures to my blog later this week of what it looks like.
